The Strangest Secret- Earl Nightingale
The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale
This is probably one of the shortest books you will read but it is full of lessons and great motivational calls. I would actually recommend you to get the original audio recording- it’s awesome! Millions of people listened to it since it was first released, it was the first spoken-word recording to achieve Gold Record status.
First a little bit about the author
Based on Wikipedia –
Earl Nightingale (March 12, 1921 – March 28, 1989) was an American radio personality, writer, respected speaker and author, dealing mostly on the subjects of human character development, motivation, excellence and meaningful existence; so named as the “Dean of Personal Development.” He was the voice in the early 1950s of Sky King, the hero of a radio adventure series, and was a WGN radio show host from 1950 to 1956. Nightingale was the author of The Strangest Secret, which economist Terry Savage has called “…One of the great motivational books of all time“.
“The Strangest Secret”
The book “The Strangest Secret” was written and recorded in 1956. It was the earliest recording of personal development content. Earl Nightingale created later Nightingale-Conant company- still by today the world’s largest publisher of personal development products, with thousands of success programs from top self-improvement authors. The recording by Nightingale revolutionized the way people learned self development materials. It was easy to listen to the recording while driving in a car or work around the house. Nightingale voice is great, charisma and experience talk through.
I’d like to tell you about The Strangest Secret in the World. The late Nobel prizewinning,
Dr. Albert Schweitzer was once asked, “Doctor, what is wrong with men
today?” The great doctor was silent a moment, and then he said, “Men simply do
not think!” It is about this that I want to talk with you.”
The book is full a great ideas, motivations and personal development tips. The main message says ” We become what we think about.” All our thoughts build our world, our life- we basically attract the things we give the most of our energy to, all our thought to.
The advice in this book is inspiring and timeless. Be mindful of your thoughts, set your goals and work towards them. Nothing comes easily, you still need to work towards your goals but having them clearly defined helps. All your thoughts should be positive and work in lines of your ideas.
I highly recommend buying the CD and listening to it at least once every month! You will not be disappointed with this gem!
Few quotes:
“Here is the key to success, and, the key to failure.
“We become what we think about.”
Let me say that again.
“We become what we think about.”
Throughout history, the great wise men and teachers, philosophers, and prophets have disagreed
with one another on many different things. It is only on this one point that they are in complete
and unanimous agreement—the key to success and the key to failure is this:
“We become what we think about.””
“Have you ever noticed that a person who becomes successful tends to continue to become more successful? On the other hand, have you noticed how someone who is a failure tends to continue to fail?
The difference is goals. Some of us have goals, some don’t. People with goals succeed because they know where they are going.
It’s that simple.”
“Don’t forget ‘The Strangest Secret.’ We become what we think about.”
“Every one of us is the sum total of all our thoughts.”
“Success is really nothing more than the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. This means that any person who knows what they are doing and where they are going is a success. Any person with a goal towards which they are working is a successful person.”
